Nice concept, cool artwork August 12, 2010 Todd7 (Michigan) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Darklore manor was given to me as a gift, as a buddy of mine knows how much I like dark, occult music, especially in the autumn months. This CD is good, but not as good as Carnival of Lost Souls, which just blew me away. On this CD, I really like Phantom Procession, as it's very unique from the rest of the tracks, and the music really fits the title. I like these guys, as they're good artists who have that ability to trigger the imagination........that of course happens after someone approaches the music with an open mind!!!! 8/10
Let it begin....... July 27, 2010 Brian Nallick (Mpls, MN) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've been trying to round out my Nox Arcana collection so I decided to go back to the very beginning and buy Darklore Manor.
I know some people may get upset with me for bringing up Midnight Syndicate but......it's kind of hard not to for Nox's first release away from Syndicate.
As many of you know Vargo was a very important figure in Midnight's first two releases "Born of the Night" and "Realm of Shadows".
I find it interesting that Midnight, while having some great moments really relied too much on corny sound effects back then.
I think it was definitely for the best that Vargo left.
Nox and Midnight may be playing similar types of music but after hearing Darklore I can see that Vargo was aiming for something less Halloween and something much grander.
The first thing I noticed was no annoying sound effects. No rattling chains or ghostly footsteps.
Instead of coming out with a Halloween cd, Nox unleashed a soundtrack album.
Much different from what Midnight was/is doing. Not that I'm not a fan of both, I am. But to my picky ears both groups sound very different.
I'm sure the general public would be like......Nox who?........Midnight what????......and then go on to say they both sound identical.
UUGH......this is what pop music does to peoples ears.
Sorry, ranting.
Anyway.......Darklore Manor.
The good?
Incredible production.
Crisp, clear.
Stand out tracks are
Track one, "Legend"
Track two, "Darklore Manor"
Track five, "Veil of Darkness"
Track nine, "Phantom Procession"
Track thirteen, "The Forgotten"
Track nineteen, "Darkness Immortal"
An excellent cd and a must have for Nox fans.
Interesting to go back and see the roots of the band and to see just how far Vargo and Piotrowski have evolved as musicians.
Highly recommended.

Every town has a house of legend, a place where inhabitants fear to tread, and children speak of in whispers. Usually it's a great Victorian mansion, abandoned for decades, and left to rot at the end of some long lonely road. And if you're anything like me you want, nay need, to roam it's dusty corridors and see for yourself if the rumors are true. Well fiends, Nox Arcana maestros William Piotrowski and Joseph Vargo have created just such place with the release of their album Darklore Manor.
You begin by entering this old isolated home, unaware of its legacy, by way of the Threshold Of The Dead. Throughout the albums twenty-one tracks, you meander through all of the rooms, such as The Grande Hall, slowly uncovering the grim past and strange goings-on's that have occurred with these walls. You find clues to the history, Music Box and Nursery Rhyme (featuring eerie vocals by Christine Filipak), and even attend a Séance. All the while you are surrounded by entities trapped here, some good some bad, as you try, in vain it seems, to escape Darklore Manor.
This album is the perfect way to capture that elusive haunted house from your childhood, and relive it anytime you wish. All you need to do is close your eyes, and you are there. That is the wonderful thing about Nox Arcana's musical creations, everyone's minds eye plays a different version of the same theme, allowing each individual his or her own separate nightmare.
Enter the doors of Darklore Manor, and prepare yourself for a journey to the very heart of your deepest fears. Just remember that this invitation may be your last!
Very Good Dark Music November 13, 2009 Reid M. Wilson (Seminole, Florida) Darklore Manor features very good dark music. If I remember accurately, much of this music is relatively quiet with the slight ringing of bells or chimes, which is great for meditation. I bought this album to celebrate the Halloween month of October, and it was perfect.

This was just what I was looking for for my Halloween evening fun. I had many different reactions. Most thought it was really eerily neat.
