Product Description
As dusk settles over the carnival, the once-festive midway begins to exude an eerie sense of menace. Pale green lights eminate from somewhere in the distance, where the murmur of voices echo amidst ghostly music and other, more unsettling sounds. Dark rumors of missing children and drifters have followed the carnival from town to town, and though you are well aware of the dangers of trespassing here, you cannot resist the temptation to explore the circus grounds after dark. Welcome to The Circus Diabolique, an old-time carnival that harbors living nightmares and sinister secrets. Nox Arcana invites you to immerse yourself in a soundscape of dark orchestrations, haunting melodies and chilling sound effects.

5 out of 5 stars Their best thus far   August 12, 2010

Carnival of Lost Souls is Nox Arcana's best CD thus far, because its concept is far-out, and the music delivers big time. This CD stands above the rest, but their other stuff is pretty darn good, as well. Get this CD and immerse yourself into the world of true horror. So many artists put out the same type of stuff, but Nox Arcana is bold to do something different. Keep up the good work, and the imagination....10/10

For those familiar with atmospheric horror music, the name Joseph Vargo might ring a bell, after all he was one of the masterminds behind the first Midnight Syndicate album Born Of The Night. For the last few years, however, he has been working alongside William Piotrowski as Nox Arcana, and creating beautiful soundscapes to haunt your mind and home. They have released five albums over the past three years, a feat lots of bands could never pull off, and have truly created a niche for themselves with their brand of conceptual horror soundtrack featuring everything from deep orchestral pieces to hair-raising sound effects, effortlessly blended together to draw the listener into whichever world they wish, be it haunted Victorian mansions, Bram Stoker's Dracula, or HP Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos. This time around though we are given a ticket, paid in full, that allows us entrance into the Carnival Of Lost Souls.
We begin our journey with the opening track Ghosts Of The Midway, which ushers us into the scariest carnival this side of the afterlife, the Circus Diabolique. All of the attractions are here, the "Haunted Carousel", "Hall Of Mirrors", "Freaks", even "Madame Endora" the fortuneteller. The album deftly leads us through each part of the midway, offering glimpses of what lies in store for you inside of each tent. Some contain magic, "Spellbound", some contain terror, "Nightmare Parade", but all of the songs are masterful arrangements that drag you deeper into the mythology Nox Arcana has created. You are so engulfed in your excursion through the Circus Diabolique that time will fly by, leaving you no choice but to cash in your ticket once more and begin your trip down the grounds of the circus again.
This is a fantastic album, creating a nightmare world, which this reviewer didn't want to leave. I highly recommend all of Nox Arcana's aural horrors, and Carnival Of Lost Souls is no exception. As fans of fright will quickly see these ghouls know how to create unearthly terror deep in the minds eye. So, what are you waiting for, enter the realm of Circus Diabolique, that is if you dare!

5 out of 5 stars It's a wild time at the Carnival of Lost Souls   March 5, 2010

One of my favorite cd's from Nox Arcana is right here. Carnival of Lost Souls has everything you'd want and more from a dark and haunted carnival - clowns laughing, calliope music, talking dolls, children's voices, thunder, monsters and circus animals, a demented ringmaster, an exotic dancer, and other surprises such as a phonograph playing an evil tune. Some songs are upbeat while others are slow and sorrowful but like I said this cd has everything imaginable that you'd want.

I really like this cd. It's definitely one of their best. The cd sleeve comes packed with Joseph Vargo's awesome artwork depicting this twisted carnival from hell. Together the artwork, story and music combine to deliver quite an impressive "scare package". Vargo is a genius. Nox Arcana are the undisputed Halloween champions of the world. If you haven't heard of them, you should start your collection right here.

I purchased this CD to enhance the atmosphere of my yard haunt. I was not disappointed! The music is both beautiful and creepy!

Used this as part of a Halloween/haunted house compilation and loved it. You can preview the tracks on Amazon before you buy, so you'll know if it's right for you. I knew it would be great before I purchased it.
