| Customer Reviews: New Heroes and the Necromancer Villain June 16, 2010 Baron Von Cool Hero Pack 1 is a very nice expansion to A Touch of Evil, the Supernatural Game. You get four new Heroes, complete with cards and miniatures: Adrianna the Foreign Traveler (a blind, kick-butt gypsy who always attacks first), Harlow Morgan the Inventor, sexy Lucy Hanbrook the Spoiled Young Heiress (daughter of Lord and Lady Hanbrook, two of the Town Elders from the base set), and, by popular demand, the infamous masked highwaymen: The Scarlet Shadow. Lucy Hanbrook and the Scarlet Shadow were previously available only as allies but are now fully playable Heroes in their own right. Drawing the old ally cards for these Heroes instead draws them back to the Manor or Abandoned Keep and nets the Hero who drew their card and Lucy or the Shadow 2d6 Investigation (the ally card is then discarded). All of these new Heroes are very fun to play with one word of caution: Lucy Hanbrook only gets two Wound Points (she can heal herself 1 Wound once per round though) and her starting location and KO location are The Manor, which can result in her being unfairly attacked by the Villain's minions there. She takes several rounds to beef up but once she gets going can be just as fun to play as any other hero. She is perhaps best suited to cooperative mode or team play where she can be aided by any allied Heroes early on.
The new Villain introduced in this set is the Necromancer, a tough opponent who summons waves of walking dead (zombies) to assault the Heroes. The only disappointment with him is that there is no new Minion Chart included; instead, the rules say to recycle the Vampire's Minion Chart from the base game instead. This is a major disappointment but one easily fixed: You can find a (fan-made) alternate Necromancer specific chart online at BoardGame Geeks, along with bonus villains like Frankenstein, Mr. Hyde, etc.
You also get 10 fun new Event and Location cards in this set. More cards are always welcome and add to the game's already high re-playability.
Hero Pack 1 is expensive for what you get, being half the price of the base set, but if you're addicted to A Touch of Evil like I am, it's worth it. Also check out the web exclusive promo card sets for "The Allies" and "The Madness" at Flying Frog.
I need MORE expansions! December 15, 2009 Adam Gish (Minnesota) A Touch of Evil has become HUGE in my town. I can get people who usually don't play nerd games to play THIS game, and they keep coming back for more! I got my girlfriend's dad to play it (he played Karl the Soldier) and he loved it. I'm just saying that this game is awesome, and I bought the Hero Pack expansion as soon as I heard about it. I really hope Flying Frog keeps making more of these because they really hit a home run with this game.
